Italian Family Life Cookbook

by Nick Verna

Order now at www.lulu.com/content/1226428

With recipes and stories that are heartwarming, delicious, and easy to follow, Nick shares his passion for cooking and his love for traditional family values.  Whether it’s an Italian Christmas Eve dinner or the “dangers” of garlic bread you will appreciate how food, family and tradition are intertwined.

In “Italian Family Life Cookbook” Nick tells you what it’s like to eat like an Italian in New York, using a combination of beautifully photographed traditional and imaginative new Italian dishes. The recipes are richly illustrated with poignant and humorous stories of growing up Italian, and just for fun, some language lessons on "Speaking Brooklyneze".

The inspiration for this book came from Nick’s daughter who constantly called him for recipes.  The easy to make recipes in this cookbook were written with his daughter in mind - someone with minimal cooking experience.

This unique combination of family tradition and recipes is meant to inspire families to build and maintain their own customs.  Whether it’s a time-honored eggplant parmigiana or an artichoke and gorgonzola risotto, there is something in this book for anyone who likes to eat!

Asparagus Parmesan

½ C Italian flavored bread crumbs

1 Tsp. Garlic Powder

½ C Grated Parmesan Cheese

Salt and Pepper to taste

1 Bunch (1 Lb.) of thin green Asparagus

Olive Oil for drizzling

¼ C Water

Wash the asparagus and trim off the bottom ends. Arrange the asparagus evenly in a baking dish. Cover them with the Breadcrumbs, then the Garlic, then the cheese, then the salt and pepper. Sprinkle the asparagus with the water, then drizzle olive oil over them. If the cheese is very salty do not add salt

Cover the asparagus with plastic wrap or wax paper and cook in the microwave for 10 minutes on High. Check for doneness. Yes, I said the microwave. They come out better in the microwave than the way my mother did them in the oven. Mom, forgive me! If you like your asparagus crisp, cut down on the cooking time.
